Energy Bill Update:
This morning, Senator Domenici rallied Republican support to narrowly vote down the historic energy bill that passed the House yesterday afternoon. While this is a setback, all is not lost. We expect that the Senate will consider the energy bill again soon.

With a very strong vote in the House yesterday, there is enormous support for energy legislation that will make progress towards reducing greenhouse gases and strengthening our economy.

Please keep asking your Senators to fight to raise fuel economy standards and to pass a renewable electricity standard!

Here's the bottom line: If Congress flips the switch, we can:

  • Cut 20% of our global warming emissions by 2030 and make significant progress on the long term reductions in global-warming pollution that we need, according to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE).

  • Save consumers more than $25 billion at the pump and billions more on their home energy bills.

  • Bring a new clean energy economy to life -- an energy economy that, according to studies by the Union of Concerned Scientists, will keep and create hundreds of thousands of new, good-paying American jobs.

  • Share the wealth! Instead of making Big Energy -- some the richest companies in the world -- richer, this energy legislation would benefit consumers and working Americans.
