Get Involved

Getting Involved in ICO is Easy!

There are many ways that volunteers can participate in ICO activities. We welcome anyone who loves nature and working with children. You can become a certified leader or just come to help on outings.

Typically volunteers go on one outing per month but it isn't required. We also appreciate anyone who loves to work behind the scenes with administration or our many fundraising events. If you want to know more about how you can get involved, please email Paula Flores (pflores@gpinet.com)

All volunteers need to fill out a Volunteer Application. There are no other requirements unless you want to become a certified leader.

Becoming a Certified Leader

Our ICO leaders are nature lovers with an adventurous spirit and a love of children. There are a few requirements to becoming a leader but mostly you need to be fired up about providing a quality experience for the children in wild natural places. We are always looking for individuals with experience in canoeing, hiking, and/or skills or knowledge pertaining to the natural world.

All volunteers who want to become certified leaders take an online Sierra Club course called Outdoor Leadership Training/ICO 101 (OLT101). It takes about 3 to 5 hours to complete. You also need to be first aid/CPR certified -- a certification available at your local Red Cross. As well, we perform a background check as required by law.
