Adopt-A-Stream Program

Adopt-A-Stream - Medlock Park, Decatur

Description: Our activities involve South Fork of Peachtree Creek in Medlock Park (see directions below), 10-11 AM for chemical and 10 AM-noon for biological. For biologic monitoring, we need many eyes to find the macroinvertebrate critters found in the creek. [macro = large enough to be seen with naked eye; invertebrate = animal without backbone].

Monitoring Schedule *:

  • Saturday, June 16th, 2018 - Biological & Chemical

Come out at 10-11 AM for chemical monitoring, and for biologic monitoring 10 AM to noon, we need many eyes to find the critters of the creek.

* Please Note: Because we have to schedule these events so far in advance for the SIERRAN announcement, dates do need to be moved on occasion. Typically the Monitoring date is on the Saturday following the meeting. The Water Sentinels have suggested that some dates may change, Chemical more likely than Biological. So the dates above are tentative and please contact Larry before the Chemical events.  Also, refer to this website for schedule changes.

Contact: For information about chemical monitoring dates, call Larry Kloet at 404 636-7226. For more details about biological monitoring, call Nancy Wylie at 404-256-1172.

Directions to Medlock Park in Decatur

The site is on the South Fork of Peachtree Creek in Medlock Park north of Decatur.

From Clairmont Rd. (between N. Decatur and N. Druid Hill Rds.) take Desmond Dr. (third street north of N. Decatur Rd.) until it intersects with Willivee Dr. Turn left and follow Willivee around to Scott Circle where you turn right. Parking is on your left when you reach the park.

Alternatively, from the intersection of Scott Blvd, Medlock Drive, and North Decatur Rd, turn north on Medlock (that is to the right if you are driving towards Atlanta from I-285). Drive half a mile and turn left on Lancelot, which dead-ends onto Scott Circle. Turn right. In the second block, the park and parking lot are on your right.

Park as close to the middle as you can, and walk into the park along a dirt road with the 2-story building on your left and ball fields on either side, back into the woods behind ball field # 5. Bear left and you will see us at a picnic table by the stream.
