Humanity in the Hothouse
A special mini-site created by The Christian Science Monitor devoted to coverage of climate change and global warming.

ECO, the Climate Action Network Newsletter - Newsletter published during UN climate negotiations. Daily updates on the behind the scenes maneuvering during global warming treaty negotiations.

Global Change Digest - a publication which explores issues relating atmospheric pollution, with a focus on global warming and ozone depletion.

Global Environmental Change Report - Newsletter published twice monthly by Cutter Information Corporation. The newsletter is one of the best -- and oldest -- publications covering global change.

Consequences - Published by the Saginaw Valley State University (University Center, Michigan), this free quarterly is "produced as a public service to provide reliable assessments of practical concerns related to the national and international consequences of changes in the global environment."

Tiempo - The Tiempo Climate Cyberlibrary is an electronic information service covering global warming, climate change, sea-level rise and related issues, particularly as they relate to developing countries.


Science Sites

Environmental Protection Agency - The EPA's web site on global warming contains a wealth of information. A recent addition is a state by state chart of electric utilities and the pollution they emit.

U.S. Global Change Research Program- The USGCRP web site provides a wide variety of information on the science of global warming, as well as education information.

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University - Scientists at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, a division of the Columbia Earth Institute at Columbia University, study climate and environmental systems to better understand how our planet operates as a web of interconnecting processes.

US Global Change Research Information Office - This web site contains more scientific information, as well as additional education items.

Harvard Medical School - Center for Health and the Global Environment.

British Antarctic Survey - The mission of the BAS is to undertake a program of first class science through which an active and influential role can be sustained in the Antarctic region, giving the UK an authoritative voice in Antarctic affairs. BAS research covers all aspects of science and exploits the unique natural laboratory conditions in the Antarctic to address problems of global and regional relevance.

Union of Concerned Scientists - UCS is an independent nonprofit alliance of 70,000 committed citizens and leading scientists across America. They combine scientific research with public education and citizen advocacy to ensure a clean, healthy environment and a safer world.

GreenFacts - GreenFacts is an non-profit organisation publishing scientific information on health and the environment in a language accessible to the non-specialist.


Education Sites

"The Daily Planet" - This site is operated by the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois, under a cooperative agreement with NASA. It provides general earth sciences data with an emphasis on meteorology and climatology. The site includes a lot of innovative educational material for students from Kindergarten through the 12th grade.


International Sites

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - The IPCC is a scientific organizations created by the United Nations to study the issue of global warming. Composed of over 2000 of the world’s leading scientists, it is the preeminent authority on global warming and it’s impacts. In 1995 the IPCC concluded that the "balance of scientific evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate."

World Wildlife Fund - WWF has large web site devoted to the international global warming debate, as well as extensive information on global warming impacts.

Climate Action Network - CAN is an international network of organizations who share a common concern for problem of global warming. The Sierra Club is a member of the United States branch of the Climate Action Network.

The Small Islands Information Network - includes information on the impact of climate change on small island states - nations at risk of being flooded out of existence as global warming raises sea levels.

ASOC - Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition home page. Extensive information on Antarctica and the impact that human activity is having up this fragile region.


Clean Technology Sites

Solstice - An internet information service of the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology. This site contains excellent information on technologies that can help solve the global warming problem.

Rocky Mountain Institute - Rocky Mountain Institute is a nonprofit research and educational foundation whose mission is to foster the efficient and sustainable use of resources as a path to global security.

CEERT - Center for Energy Effeciency and Renewable Technology. This is another site with extensive information on clean technology and energy issues. Of special interest is their section on utility de-regulation and it's possible impacts on the environment.

American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy - The nonprofit ACEEE promotes energy efficiency. Its home page is a rich source of information on the technology, politics, economics and environmental implications of energy efficiency.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (US) - Site includes large list of renewable energy and energy efficiency publications. Among the documents available from NREL's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Clearinghouse is a set of fact sheets written for a general audience. The site also provides access to many other reference resources (research data, databases, etc).


Advocacy Sites

BetterSUV.org is a Web-based owner-driven campaign to highlight the unacceptably high costs and risks of SUVs and call on manufacturers, federal regulators and Congress to make a safer, more fuel-efficient SUV.

Physicians For Social Responsibility - PSR is a Nobel prize winning organization dedicated to protecting public health and the environment.

The Climate Institute - is a non-profit organization devoted to public education and efforts to curb global warming.



Friends of the Earth - FOE is an international, non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the planet from environmental degradation; preserving biological, cultural, and ethnic diversity; and empowering citizens. FOE's United Kingdom web site contains extensive global warming resources.

Sustainable Minnesota-Climate Change Resources - A project of Minnesotans for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ME3) providing information on Climate Change and Environmental Externalities.
