Take Action!

The biggest single step to curb global warming
Beginning in 1995, friends of the auto industry in Congress attacked CAFE standards
with an anti-environmental "rider" in the Department of Transportation's funding
bill. The rider forbids the administration from setting new CAFE standards. While
technology exists to safely improve fuel economy and protect our environment, the
CAFE-freeze rider allows the auto industry to remain stuck in reverse.

It is time for action. Please urge your public officials to support cleaning up our
cars and light trucks. Ask them to help take the first step of closing the loophole that
allows SUVs and other light trucks to guzzle more gas than cars. Tell them our children
have a right to a safe and healthy environment. It's time to take the biggest single step
to curb global warming. See the Sierra Club Take
Action page.
