Global Green's 'Holy Cross Project'
The environmental organization Global Green is working with New Orleans residents
and other groups to rebuild the city in a sustainable way--hence its Holy
Cross Project. In partnership with actor Brad Pitt, an international
contest was held to find the best zero-energy affordable housing development,
and now the winning design is under construction in the Lower Ninth Ward.
An event was held on August 22 to show off the progress being made in the Holy
Cross Project, which eventually will include five single-family homes, an 18-unit
apartment building, and a community center/sustainable design and climate action
center. Sierra Club Environmental Justice Organizer Darryl Malek-Wiley, who
has worked closely with the Holy
Cross Neighborhood Association in its role
with the project, attended the event and took the following photos.

Residents, activists, and the media attended the event
to check progress on the Holy Cross Project.

Pam Dashiell, a longtime neighborhood activist and
organizer, was among the speakers at the event.
