 What to Do
Water
Mountaintop removal is the nation's most destructive form of coal mining. Mining companies clearcut native forests and use explosives to blow off mountaintops to uncover thin seams of coal. To minimize waste disposal costs, they then dump millions of tons of the waste rock into the valleys below, permanently burying streams. Tell Congress to protect Appalachia's mountains and streams.
Ask your members of Congress to support legislation which would ensure that ALL waters of the US continue to receive Clean Water Act protection.
Write a letter to the editor for your local paper. Let your community know about current threats to the Clean Water Act.
