Sierra Club Inner City Outings

Get Involved

Community groups across the United States always express a need for more and more outdoor experiences for the youth they serve. In order for ICO to meet the needs of underserved youth these agencies represent, it is critical that:

  • We recruit and train new volunteer leaders
  • We replace worn equipment
  • We raise funds to ensure food and transportation for each trip

You or your employer can donate items or resources to your local area ICO group. You can become an ICO volunteer leader. All skill levels in a wide variety of functions are needed and appreciated whether you would like to lead or assist on trips, help maintain equipment, raise funds, or organize administrative paperwork. Leader training is available.

As an ICO volunteer, you and the kids will day hike to local wilderness areas, bicycle, backpack, camp, canoe, kayak, cross-country ski, river raft, and perform environmental service projects in beautiful open spaces. You will teach kids to safely enjoy the outdoor world beyond the confines of their homes, schools, and computer screens. To find the group closest to you, please refer to the ICO Local Contact List.
