Sierra Club National Board President Aaron Mair in Peoria October 30th

Aaron MairThe new National Sierra President Aaron Mair has combined his outreach and emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion for Sierra Club with presentations at the Illinois State NAACP Annual Conference, October 30th in Peoria.  Aaron Mair is speaking at an Environmental Panel discussion: “Union and Minority Job Opportunities” from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. He is speaking again in the evening for a “Mass Meeting” beginning where music  and other speakers start the evening presentations off at 6:30 p.m. NAACP National President and CEO Cornell Brooks will be speaking after Aaron Mair.

All events are at the Pere Marquette Hotel, downtown Peoria. Plans for Mr. Mair’s visit were coordinated by Illinois Chapter staff Kady McFadden and Terri Treacy. HOI member Dave Pittman, currently a member of the Peoria NAACP Board, was key in having environmental topics added to the convention program. State Senator David Koehler and Representative Jehan Gordon Booth will also both be speaking and in various sessions at the conference.

Aaron Mair lives in Schenectady, New York, and is an epidemiological-spatial analyst with the New York State Department of Health. He brings more than three decades of environmental activism and over 25 years as a Sierra Club volunteer leader to his position as the Sierra Club’s first African American president.
