The Western Ghats of India

Sayadhries

Sahyadris Range
The hills of the northern Western Ghats are locally known as the Sahyadris. These basalt formations have very different geological origins from the hills in the southern Western Ghats. Although not as high as the southern Ghats and less rich in biodiversity, the Sahyadris are nonetheless an important island of natural wealth. The edge of the range is also particularly dramatic, as can be seen in this image from Konkon Keda, a viewpoint on the remote fort of Harishchandragad in Maharasthra.
