  • Director of the Natural History Museum at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
  • Keeler was a charter Sierra Club member. Keeler met Muir through artist William Keith
  • Keeler was Muir's cabin-mate aboard the George W. Elder on the Harriman Alaska Expedition (1899).
  • He worked for the preservation of the Berkeley hills
