Safe Streets Amendments

Sponsor: Tom Harkin (D-IA)
Legislative Session: 2005

Senator Harkin introduced a bipartisan Safe and Complete Streets amendment to the transportation bill.  This amendment would require states and large Metropolitan Planning Organizations to adopt policies to build complete streets that accommodate all road users, including bikes and pedestrians. 

Status

The amendment failed by a vote of 44-53 on May 11, 2005.
