Wilderness Notebooks:
Lewis and Clark, in their own words

White Cloud Peaks tower above a landscape of icy rivers and wildflower meadows at the headwaters of the Salmon River in Idaho. Public officials, area businesses and local media have rallied behind protecting the area as wilderness.

Boulder MountainsThe good news it that much of the White Cloud Peaks area remains inaccessible and is therefore able to maintain its wild and primitive character. And there's solid support from local businesses and the ranching community to come up with a wilderness plan. But the area is under constant threat of mining pressures, and proposals are on the table for cyanide-gold leach mining and molybdenum mining.
