Where do we go from here? Engaging together for a greener tomorrow.
Thank you to all who attended this year’s Jamboree on Oct 13-15 at Shepherd's Spring Retreat and Conference Center. Over 150 Sierra Club members, activists, friends, and families came together to enjoy a weekend of fun filled activities!
If you were one of the lucky ones to join us, please fill out this evaluation survey. Thanks so much.
Check out our Flickr album for more pictures of the weekend.
We had a variety of informative and engaging workshops from some of Maryland’s most esteemed environmental activists. From Powerpoint presentations to hands-on activities, there was something for everyone to appreciate. In our downtime we did yoga, sang our hearts out at Amy’s Green Karaoke, listened to the talented Satyr Hill bluegrass band, and ate smore’s by the campfire,
We had the perfect weather for attendees to get out and immerse themselves in the outdoors. There were nature walks and hikes where we learned to identify different birds, plants, and insects. Ron Henry led the Chippewa Seven Directions ceremonies in the mornings and we all gathered around the warmth of the campfire at night.
Our Beyond Gas team pulled off an incredible “Hands Across the Potomac” direct action. Attendees united along the bridge overlooking the Potomac River where we held hands and sang “We Shall Overcome” to protest the proposed pipeline and advocate for clean water. Kudos to the Jamboree Steering and Program committee Chair Sydney Jacobs for fully embracing this event.
We were honored to have the National Sierra Club President Loren Blackford as our keynote speaker Friday night and join us at Hands Across the Potomac. We honored activist leaders Martha Ainsworth, Dan Andrews, Ling Tan, Jill Clark-Gollub, Ruth Alice White, and showed our appreciation with gifts of native plants from Behnkes.
