Here's a look at the Sierra Club's conservation priorities for 2006 - an important election year that brings with it a remarkable opportunity to change the current anti-environment climate in Washington.
At this critical time, we really need you - please donate or become a member today.
In 2006 we will work to:
- Stand up to logging operations in the Giant Sequoia National Monument that are determined to bulldoze huge swaths and remove ancient trees from this cherished living landmark;
- Block further efforts to weaken or destroy the Endangered Species Act;
- Continue to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from being handed over to Big Oil;
- Fight for better enforcement of the Clean Air Act and turn back the Administration's continued attempts to pass the so-called "Clear Skies" bill that will result in more pollution than simply enforcing the Clean Air Act;
- Protect the last roadless areas of our National Forests. With the overturning of the 2000 "Roadless Rule" the Sierra Club must now fight each separate attempt to log in these pristine wild forests; and
- Oppose anti-environmental judges nominated to the federal bench and even to the Supreme Court.
If any group can win these critical battles, it is the Sierra Club - with your help. Our strength comes from the commitment of our members - people who care, like you. So, please become a member of the Sierra Club or donate much needed funds today.
