Since the November 2004 elections, it's been open season on America's natural resources and environmental protections, but we still won some key fights in 2005.
2006 will be even more challenging and we'll need your support more than ever, please donate or join today.
In 2005, with the help of our members and donors, the Sierra Club and the conservation community were able to:
- Prevent the House of Representatives from using the Budget Reconciliation Bill to open the Arctic or our coasts to drilling;
- Halt logging in the Giant Sequoia National Monument;
- Hold off the wanton attempts by Congress to destroy the Endangered Species Act;
- Block the passage of pro-industry measures to gut the Clean Air Act;
- Force the Environmental Protection Agency to abandon its plan to let polluters dump raw sewage into America's rivers;
- Pass landmark clean car legislation in Washington State which will help reduce smog pollution and slow global warming; and
- Stop an effort to allow oil drilling off Virginia's coastline.
There is little doubt that 2006 will be our most challenging year to date. The Sierra Club is counting on your moral and financial support to help us galvanize the public to fight now on behalf of our nation's natural heritage and environmental protections.
Please donate or join today and help us protect our nation's imperiled forests, wildlands and wildlife and keep our air and water clean.
