Earth Day "Walk/Run for the Rivers" set for April 21

by Jill C. Miller

Exercise, have fun, and help support the environment by participating in the Earth Day "Run/Walk for the Rivers" on April 21 in Forest Park.

For the past two years, the Eastern Missouri Group (EMG) Sierra Club has orchestrated the "Walk for the Environment" fund-raiser. This year, we're teaming up with St. Louis Earth Day, the Open Space Council and the American Lung Association to help protect area rivers. Funds raised will support watershed projects by Operation Clean Stream, St. Louis Earth Day, and the EMG Sierra Club.

Participants may walk the 5K course at their own pace, or compete as runners, with a chance to win prizes in different age groups. Not so fast on your feet? No problem-we'll award a prize to the person who raises the most money, too. For the third year in a row, the Alpine Shop of Webster Groves is generously donating top-quality clothing and merchandise.

All participants will receive a free event t-shirt and a Sierra Club fanny pack. Food and refreshments will be provided. Registration fees are $12.00 in advance or $15.00 on event day. There's a special rate for families of four or more (please call for details). Pick up a flyer or look for the registration form in the next SierraScape.

Don't want to walk or run but you'd like to help with the event? We'll definitely need helping hands on April 21st! For an event flyer or to volunteer, please call EMG Walk/Run Coordinator John Patrick at (314) 533-1138, or Jill Miller at (314) 664-7895.
