The Sierra Club, along with several organizations coordinated by Missouri Pro-Vote, registered 265 new voters at Metrolink stops in the St. Louis area on Tuesday, June 25. The drive called "Transit Vote" is part of a national program sponsored by U.S. Action.

The voter registration drive was organized with the cooperation of Bi-state Development Agency and included labor, community, and environmental organizations. Ed LaPorte represented the Sierra Club and registered new voters at the Union Station Metrolink stop.

"We hope to register 3500 new voters at Metrolink stops in St. Louis and mobilize them to vote in the November elections", said John Hickey, Sierra Club member and Executive Director of Pro-Vote. "Transit riders are a large under-organized base to vote for mass transit and against highway oriented sprawl".

The drive focuses on Transit riders because many of them do not own vehicles and miss the opportunity to register at drivers' license bureaus. Another "Transit Vote" day is scheduled for August 14.  To volunteer, call Pro-Vote at 314-531-2288.
