  1. The St. Louis County Department of Parks has retained the firm of Parsons, Brinkerhoff, Quade and Douglas as planning consultants to develop a master plan for Creve Coeur Park. Because the Page Avenue Extension cut across the park, a thousand acres of land was added to the park. The plans have been to leave most of this land in a natural state with an emphasis on outdoor activities such as walking, hiking and bird watching, fishing, etc. However, many people believe that this area will be built up and urbanized. There is concern about a skating center which will be built inside this park. This does not fit in with the character of this park. This use of the land with parking lots, roads, traffic and air pollution will degrade the quality of the park experience for many of the park's users. For information, call the County Park Hotline at (314) 615-4386.
  2. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) is holding a series of hearings designed to provide interested parties with opportunities to comment on the boundary designation that will be set for the 8 hour National Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for ozone and particular matter for the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Please call the MDNR's St. Louis Urban Office at (314) 340-5900 for more information and dates, times and location of future meetings.
  3. In St. Charles County, Whittaker Builders is planning a new home subdivision called "New Town in St. Charles". It calls for 3,000 housing units to be built on 600 acres of farmland near Highway B and Highway 94. The worry is that this could be flooded in a wet spring. The land will be taken out of food production necessary to feed our growing population. This land use will interfere with the plans of other private and government landowners who wish to create habitat for endangered species and flora and fauna native to this region. Watch for progress on this development and be ready to give input.
