You do remember November 7, right? The satisfaction, the relief we all felt, as so many supporters of special interests went down to defeat, to be replaced by friends of the environment, was a glorious feeling.

Now we are all sufficient realists to know that, gratifying as the election results were, the struggle to save our country's resources is by no means over. The special interests continue to be determined and powerful, particularly so in the Missouri legislature. But the results of the last election show that changes can be brought about by the determined effort of earnest volunteers.

Members of the EMG Sierra Club political committee are determined to keep the momentum going! At our meeting of January 3, we resolved to continue the good work, to make sure the results of the last election translate into genuine progress. We know that the opposition is well funded and stubborn-but we also know from last November that organized earnest effort can win the day.

But the group that met on January 3, determined as they are, can't do it alone. Will you help? Of course we particularly need the participation of folks who already have some acquaintance with the political process. But ALL are welcome to join us, experienced or not!

The political committee meets the first Wednesday of every month, at the Sierra Club office, 7164 Manchester, in Maplewood.
