Hawn State Park celebrated National Trails Day with the official grand opening of three trails built by the Sierra Club trail crew. EMG set up three information tables at each of three trail heads. They were manned by Paul Stupperich, Paul Ohlendorf, Bob Van Sickle, Gloria Broderick and Bob Gestel. The tables were stocked with water on ice, snacks and maps and brochures. Chilled water was a big hit because it was a fairly warm day. Over 130 hikers stopped at our three tables for information and free refreshments.

Promptly at one o'clock superintendent Edmund Schott cut the ribbon at White Oak connector trail Number One and a group of hikers standing by began their hike down the completed trail.

The next time you are hiking down at Hawn check out the connector trails. You can do a short three mile loop on the White Oak Trail or extend your hike to fifteen miles using the connector trails to the Whispering Pine Trail.
