I have been working with other interested parties on the "Save the Confluence" committee. The proposed casino would be St. Louis's 7th and will be 500 yards away from the Confluence Conservation Area, in the flyway of the Mississippi and also close to Riverlands Conservation Area. Some 800 people and clubs that have signed on feel this is the wrong place for a casino.

On September 1 the Gaming Commission will be starting their decision on which area in Missouri wins the 13th and last license.  At least four new licenses have been sent to the Commission.  Among other competing locations are the Chain of Rocks Bridge (north tip of St. Louis City), West Alton in St. Charles County, Cape Girardeau, eastern Kansas City, and Springfield, MO.

Enclosed in the printed version of this newsletter is a very important postcard. This will tell the Gaming Commission, before September 1, that putting the new casino so near the conservation area is a bad idea.
