Our Save the Confluence committee had been working on the casino that was going to be placed right next to the Conservation area but the builders dropped out of the application for the license last week when they couldn't raise enough money. That is typical for some of these people because some of their other projects failed the same way. However we believe that they will try again if the license is not used this year. Our fight goes on...

Now the Chain of Rocks casino: It will be built (if they get the license) on each side of 270 with a marina, hotel, theater etc. If you remember how close 270 is to the Old Chain of Rocks bridge so you may realize that they will be taking up most of the area. Other problems will be if there is going to be a lot more traffic in this area, the highway will have to be widened and the bridge will have to have extra lanes added for the traffic that will come (they hope) from IL. If there is a clover leaf to be put in here then some of the bluff (Chain of Rocks Park) will be taken down. Riverview Drive will have to be widened all the way down to Hall street. This all, of course, will not be the expenses of the casino but on MODOT. Now the builder has promised Trailnet to have land for a bike path but everyone is worried about the wonderful old bridge.

At this time the committee needs support with letters to the Gaming Commission and money for the campaign. We have a web site for the Confluence fight with more information there and will be adding the Chain of Rocks fight to it.

Save the Confluence committee has put up two billboards. Look for them coming north on 170 and coming east on 70 by the airport.

The voters in Cape have all ready decided that they want the casino there.

There are some nice articles on the Chain of Rocks Bridge Casino and on the Save the Confluence web site.

It is not too late to send in letters to the Missouri Gaming Commission, 3417 Knipp Drive, P.O. Box 1847, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Just to say we do not like any more casinos in this area.
