On August 24, 2010, Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal signed the rules, which go into effect on September 15, 2010.

On June 8, 2010, the Commission adopted the final rules, which included full disclosure requirements for fracking companies and substantial limitations on the use of pits to store fracking waste.

On March 22, 2010, the Power River Basin Resource Council and its allies and the Sierra Club commented on the rules, generally supporting Wyoming's efforts but urging measures to strengthen their protections.
