Summary: North Carolina has recently discovered what state geologists believe to be significant shale gas reserves. Because state law currently bans deep shale gas drilling, North Carolina regulators have time to take a comprehensive look at the issue, and put rules in place, before deciding whether to allow drilling.
Updates: On February 10, 2010, the Sierra Club provided the North Carolina Division of Land Resources with an overview of state law and regulatory options.
