Nearly 200 countries are meeting in Paris over the next two weeks to work on a new global agreement addressing climate change. The unprecedented global momentum for government action on climate has been building. Going into the meeting, known as the Conference of the Parties (COP 21), nearly 180 countries, representing 95 percent of global emissions had already submitted their intended emission reduction targets (INDCs).

This week, in preparation for the upcoming climate negotiations in Paris, the Sierra Student Coalition participated in Conference of the Youth (COY). COY is a gathering of young people from all around the world to work together, learn from each other and collaborate in preparation for COP21.

The major People's Climate March actions coinciding with the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference have been cancelled due to security concerns in Paris, France. It will be the 21st annual Conference of the Parties (COP21) since the 1992 United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC). COP21, held in Le Bourget, aims to co-create a universal and legally binding agreement on climate for all nation-states of the global community. The ban applies to all actions planned for public places in Paris and other French cities. People's movement activists will march in other parts of the globe, in solidarity with those who have been disallowed.
