Clair Tappaan Lodge
Clair Tappaan Lodge, Sierra Club's Flagship Lodge, is a rustic, old-world-style
mountain lodge perched near the top of Donner Pass at an elevation of 7,000
feet in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range of California. Built by Sierra Club
volunteers in 1934, the lodge has served as an excellent basecamp for year-round
recreation for nearly 80 years. Many guests will come to the Lodge for one
of its organized
outings or activities while others will come with their own itinerary and
create their own adventure.
The friendly, casual and communal atmosphere, affordable nightly rates (including
family-style meals) and its convenient location,
just 1.5 hours east of Sacramento, make the Lodge your perfect getaway to the
Tahoe/Donner area. The Lodge is enjoyed by solo travelers, couples, families,
schools, groups and clubs. The Lodge is also available for exclusive events
such as weddings, conferences and retreats.
The Lodge boasts a cheerful dining room, a large living room with huge fireplace,
a cozy library with wood-burning stove, a recreation room, and a hot tub. Sleeping
accommodations include separate dormitories for men and women, small rooms for
couples, and larger rooms for groups and families.
A professional kitchen staff prepares hearty breakfasts and dinners that are
served family-style in the dining room. Guests prepare their own brown bag lunches
from plentiful and varied ingredients to enjoy while on their daily adventure.
Vegetarian options are available for every meal. To maintain and build community
and foster the spirit of volunteerism each guest pitches in daily by doing a
lodge chore each day they are at the Lodge.

Summer Demo Center at the Lodge
SIERRA magazine has teamed up for the summer with some of our favorite
outfitters to offer products that guests at Clair Tappaan Lodge can test
out.
Before you take off on your outdoor adventure, check out the LOWA boot
center and try on a brand new pair of boots. For every pair of boots that is
demoed, LOWA will make a contribution to Sierra Club to help reduce Clair Tappaan
Lodge's dependence on fossil fuel.
For the more adventurous, bring along Black Diamond trekking poles and
a headlamp. And don't forget to stop by the dining hall for a delicious snack
prepared with If You Care products.
