Clair Tappaan Lodge is located at 7,000 feet elevation on Donner Summit and is about 1.5 hours' drive east of Sacramento just off Interstate 80 on Donner Pass Road.

The Lodge boasts a cheerful dining room, a large living room with huge fireplace, a cozy library with wood-burning stove, a recreation room, and a hot tub. Sleeping accommodations include separate dormitories for men and women, small rooms for couples, and larger rooms for families. Guests must bring their own sleeping bags or bedding, although pillows and cases are provided. Bathrooms are shared.

A professional chef cooks hearty breakfasts and dinners that are served family-style in the dining room. Guests prepare their own brown bag lunches from plentiful and varied ingredients. Vegetarian options are available for every meal. To maintain the communal spirit, each guest pitches in daily by doing a simple chore.

A Friday evening campfire will feature the traditional s'mores and brandy. Saturday will offer an all-day hike to Mt. Rose, a nature/wildflower hike, an archaeology hike, a history hike, and a longer afternoon hike possibly to Castle Peak. Saturday dinner will be a barbecue in the meadow, followed by an archaeology lecture, and then musical entertainment around the campfire that features guitarist Kelly Fleming. Sunday will offer a couple hikes, possibly one with swimming at a High Sierra lake.

Both days will also feature the CTL Art Exhibit and Sale arranged by Nevada City artist Susan Barry, with all proceeds benefiting CTL.

The all-inclusive weekend package cost is $145 per person. Make your reservation now!

August 26–28
Opera in the Mountains

Gil Deane, long time Sierra Club activist and dedicated opera buff, will present a program of popular and rare recordings, videos, and highly opinionated comments at "Opera in the Mountains," an encore of his National Outing at Clair Tappaan Lodge.

Experienced opera lovers and neophytes will be treated to wonderful music in the terrific atmosphere of the Club's flagship lodge without having to dress up as is the custom with this type of program -- informality will prevail in the usual Sierra Club style.

Imagine this: you wake up to the smell of brewing coffee and the sound of great music -- Verdi, Puccini, and many of the great composers that you love.

Deane has years of experience lecturing on the subject before libraries, schools, and community organizations, and will include in the program his Desert Island favorites, Duets to Die For, and his favorite three Tenors -- probably not the ones you are thinking about. All together we will have five music sessions: one after dinner on Friday, one after each meal on Saturday, and finally one on Sunday after breakfast.

Space is limited -- make your reservation now. The cost of the Friday night–Sunday noon event is $135, including music, lodging, and all meals.

September 16–18
Yoga, Tai Chi, and Hiking

We will do yoga outdoors, learn Tai Chi, take guided hikes, and enjoy the beautiful fall weather at Clair Tappaan Lodge!

The program will start on Friday after dinner and last until Sunday early-afternoon. Saturday will feature a short hike with yoga in nature in the morning, a Tai Chi session in the afternoon, and a presentation about yoga after dinner. On Sunday there will be a longer hike (two hours) in the morning, and another yoga session afterwards.

Join us for this fun fitness experience in the mountains! Weekend cost is $135 per person, including lodging, meals, and instructional participation.

September 16–18
Fly Fishing Fun

The outing is designed for total beginners, but all are welcome. We’ll have two days of instruction and demonstrations, with an optional non-fishing hike. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with a fish-out. Hosted by Dave McKinney, Sierra Club Yahi Group Chair and lifelong fly fisher.

Space is limited, so make your reservation now. Weekend cost is $145 per person, including lodging, all meals, and instruction. Don’t forget your fishing license!
