Clair Tapppaan Lodge Reservations
Reservations may be made on the web or over the phone with a VISA, Mastercard, Discover, American Express or Diner's Club card. Your credit card holds your spot and will not be debited
until you arrive and register, or notify us of cancellation
(see our cancellation policy below). Upon arrival, you can pay
with cash, personal check, or credit card, at which time you
must show proof of membership to receive the Sierra Club member's
discount.
If you wish to reserve a space at the lodge without a credit
card, you must make your request in writing and include payment
for 50% of the reservation fee in the form of a check or money
order. All reservation requests are processed on a first-come,
first-served basis. We recommend that reservations for busy
weekends and holiday periods be made at least a month in advance.

Clair Tappaan Lodge Cancellations
In the event of cancellation, your credit card would be debited
the following amounts:
- 7 or more days notice -$12 or 10% of the total reservation
canceled, whichever is greater.
- 1 to 6 days notice -25% of total reservation amount canceled.
- less than one day notice -50% of the total amount canceled.
Note: Changing the date(s) of an existing
reservation constitutes a cancellation of those date(s). The
only exception to the above policy is in the event of an official
road closure by the State Department of Transportation due to
weather (call CAL-TRANS at 1-800-427-ROAD or check their
website),
in which case no cancellation fees apply. Please note that NO
CASH REFUNDS are handed out at the lodge. All refund requests
must be submitted to Clair Tappaan; checks are then issued via
Sierra Club headquarters.
Back Country Hut Reservations
To prevent overcrowding, the cabins are operated on a
reservation basis during the winter. Requests for reservations should be
accompanied by a $10/person/night deposit. Before 1 November requests will be
accepted only in writing. After 1 November, requests will also be accepted by
phone (530-426-3632, 9 AM - 12 noon only) if the caller provides valid VISA or
MasterCard credit card information. Other information needed to secure a
reservation includes cognizant person (organization scheduler or trip leader),
address, and phone number; hut(s) and date(s) desired -- list the date of the
evening for an overnight; party size; and type of group (see below).
Sierra Club groups receive first priority in reservations. Groups which
have participated in work parties receive priority over those which have not.
Each party should include at least one person familiar with the location of
the cabin (having visited it before) who is willing to act as navigator.
Responsibility for the safety of the group lies with the trip leader.
Back Country Hut Cancellations
A full or partial refund of any deposit can be arranged if
space is released at least one month before the reservation date. If weather
forces cancellation (for example, highways were closed), a refund may also be
possible; a forecast of bad weather does not, by itself, constitute grounds
for a refund, however. Make claims for refunds immediately to the Manager at
Clair Tappaan Lodge (see below).

Each reservation request for winter use must be accompanied by a $10 per
