Bradley Hut
10th Anniversary Celebration!

More Bradley Hut Photos
The
Josephine Crane Bradley Hut was in the Five Lakes Basin, between
the Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley ski resorts, until the Granite
Chief Wilderness was established and the hut was removed (1996-98).
Starting in 1997, a new hut (using some of the same materials) was
constructed in upper Pole Creek about 4 miles away; it was opened
for use in late 1998.
The new Bradley Hut accommodates about 15 overnight
visitors. Skiing and snowshoeing are possible in the
bowls and meadows near the hut and in the Deep Creek
drainage to the north. Benson Hut is about 4 miles to
the northwest, over a route that requires care because
of avalanche hazards and potentially severe weather.
The removal and reconstruction of Bradley Hut was supported by
a major grant from Recreational Equipment, Inc., financial contributions
from a number of Sierra Club units, and contributions of both labor
and money from over 150 individuals.
