MacDonald Hut

MacDonald Hut

Sam MacDonald Hut was built in 1977 to inspire the development of a network of trails and huts from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area to Santa Cruz.

Location: In Sam MacDonald County Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains, west of Menlo Park, near La Honda. A 1.5 mile hike from the park entrance. Surrounded by 5000 acres of public and semi-public land.

Capacity: 14

Facilities: Living room, dining area, kitchen, loft with mattresses.

Activities: Hiking in the adjacent parklands and to the ocean; trailbuilding, maintenance, mapping.

Staff: Volunteer hutmaster.

MacDonald HutReservations: Open by reservation for day and overnight use. Nominal fee, with discount to Sierra Club members. Generally open throughout the week, but occasionally restricted to week-end use.
