Lodges and Huts

Maintenance Work Parties: Finances

The Sierra Club provides tools and supplies, including food, for the work party weekend. Work party participants are also eligible for Friday night lodging and Saturday breakfast at Clair Tappaan Lodge at no charge. If arriving by 6 p.m. Friday or staying until 6-7 p.m. Sunday, work party volunteers can also obtain dinner on one of those nights. Note that meals at Clair Tappaan involve an exchange (chores); you should volunteer to help prepare or clean up after a meal.

If you follow the normal schedule and don't need to purchase any personal gear, your only out-of-pocket expenses for a work party should be for transportation, incidentals while traveling, and laundry when you get home.

The Club provides no medical or other insurance for work party participants, expecting that individuals have made their own arrangements for adequate coverage. It is rare that injuries extend beyond an occasional scrape or insect bite; but there are risks, and individuals approach them differently. The Acknowledgement of Risk and Liability of Waiver Form provides some perspective; you may also wish to consult an insurance advisor before volunteering for this, or any other, outing.
