Workshop Type When and Where: Learn more and Sign Up

If you area you interested in bringing an Outings Leader Training Workshop to your area, or are interested on running one for your group or chapter, contact the Training Manager to learn how. We are planning 2014 and 2015 training events.

OLT Workshop (OLT 201) December 7, 2013 at the Washington, DC Sierra Club Office (50 F Street NW). The session run 8:30am to 4:30pm. A fee of $20 per attendee will help defray costs of the course. Contact Gary Kosciusko by November 30 to learn more and register.
Wilderness First Responder Recertification May 3-5, 2014 at Clair Tappaan Lodge in Norden, CA. Coming December 1
Wilderness First Responder May 17-26, 2014 at Clair Tappaan Lodge in Norden, CA. Coming December 1
National Outings Training Trip Hosted by the Northwest Subcommittee, the field section of this training will take place June 25-29, 2014. near Portland, OR Coming November 1, 2013
National Outings Training Trip Hosted by the Southwest Subcommittee, the field section of this training will take place September 21-26, 2014 in Arizona. Coming December 1, 2013
National Outings Training Trip Hosted by the Water Trips Subcommittee, the field section of this training will take place March 2015 in Arizona. Coming Summer 2014
National Outings Training Trip Hosted by the Southeast Subcommittee, the field section of this training will take place June 2015 in Arizona. Coming Summer 2014

Training Event Key:

  • OCT - Outings Chair Training: This is a program manager training for new or current Sierra Club Outings Chairs.
  • OLT - Outings Leader Training Workshop: This two-day leadership training is for all Sierra Club leaders and fulfills the Sierra Club's OLT 101 and OLT 201 requirements).
  • NOTT- National Outings Training Trip: This six-month long training involves 5 months of computer-based homework and an eight-day trip in the Sierra Nevada.
  • WFA - Wilderness First Aid: This is a 16-hour first aid course that most National/International Outings Leaders take.
  • WFR - Wilderness First Responder: This is a 72-hour first aid course that prepares leaders for more remote multi day outings.
