The Sierra Club and Our National Parks
Olympic National Park, Washington

Roosevelt elk, Olympic National Park
Olympic National Park, with nearly one million acres of protected area, is a jewel of our national parks system. With Olympic Hot Springs, Mount Olympus and home to some of the largest trees in the world, Olympic is a haven for many species and an area that must be protected as part of our natural heritage for future generations. But road blowouts, the lack of a wilderness management plan, logging, development and emissions from a nearby coal plant all threaten the integrity of this beautiful place. We must take action now before it is too late.
Over the years, the Sierra Club has played a major role in protecting Olympic and making sure that we preserve it for future generations. We are currently reintroducing wolves into the park in order to complete the ecosystem, we have continually pushed for a Wilderness Management Plan for the past 2 decades and on top of that we are actively opposing the Parks Service's efforts to rebuild Dose Road, one of the park's main access points that continually gets blown out by river flooding.
