Sierra Club, Steelworkers Rally at DuPont Shareholders Meeting

Across the country, unions and environmentalists are joining together to fight irresponsible free trade agreements, hold corporations accountable and fight for safe workplaces and healthy communities. Last week, Sierra Club members from three states joined the United Steelworkers and allied groups at a rally and a press conference in front of the DuPont shareholders meeting in Wilmington, DE.

DuPont workers and residents from contaminated communities held a giant banner that said "DuPont Puts America at Risk". Speakers highlighted Dupont's legacy of pollution that threatens workers' health, communities and the environment. Affected citizens gave personal accounts to shareholders, company executives and the public.

Among the participants were Sierra Club activists from Mississippi who are featured in the film Dioxin, Duplicity and Dupont. The film profiles the community struggle and health problems around the DuPont DeLisle plant which has been releasing large amounts of dioxin and heavy metals. Free copies of the film are available from Sierra Club for house parties or union meetings. Find out more about the film.
