McNerney Victory One of the Biggest on a Big Night for Environmentalists
With the support of hundreds of volunteers from the Sierra Club and other environmental and labor organizations, wind power consultant Jerry McNerney defeated seven-term California Congressman Richard Pombo, the powerful House Resources Chair and one of the most anti-environmental members of Congress.
McNerney lost by 22 percentage points to Pombo in 2004, but on Election Day and in the months leading up to it, volunteers went door-to-door and made phone calls in Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Danville, and helped turn the tide against Pombo.
Below are photos of Club volunteers and staff canvassing, phonebanking, and celebrating on and leading up to Election Day.
