| Knocking Around Town: Sierra Club voter education volunteers Kelly
Robinson and Liz Pinnie go door-to-door in Philadelphia to talk with
voters to raise awareness about environmental and energy issues. |
The 2008 presidential primaries provide a national platform to engage and shape the public debate on clean energy and global warming. The caucuses and early primaries allow direct citizen input to demand action, and the focus and megaphone of the national media allow individual actions to gain national attention. We can effectively raise the public debate to ensure leadership on this critical issue.
Given the consequences of inaction and the current failure of leadership, now is the time to educate the public and encourage leaders to address the challenge of global warming, the most pressing environmental issue of our time. Over the next year - with the presidential nomination process as a backdrop - Sierra Club will have the opportunity to change the current dynamic surrounding global warming and send a strong signal that inaction by our leaders and public officials is no longer an option.
