Action Alert: Say NO to More Money for Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Programs!
The Sierra Club has long supported voluntary family planning and reproductive health care in its effort to slow population growth here and around the world. We also support comprehensive sex education to better empower youth to make informed decisions about choices in their lives. One of the best ways we can address population growth here in the U.S. is to advocate for policies and programs that effectively work to reduce teen pregnancy.
If comprehensive sex education programs have been proven to reduce teenage pregnancy, then why are NO federal dollars invested in these programs? Instead, the federal government has poured large sums of money into abstinence-only-until-marriage programs that are scientifically inaccurate and have proven to be ineffective in reducing teen pregnancy. Read Rep. Waxman's (D-CA) report investigating the Content of Federally Funded Abstinence-Only Education Programs.
Make your voice heard! Through the "No New Money" Campaign, say NO to new money for Abstinence-only-until-marriage programs.
