Urge Congress to Reject the Bush Administration's Dramatic Cut of International Family Planning Funding
On February 6, 2006, President Bush released his FY 2007 Budget. Attacks were made on family planning programs both in the United States and abroad. The National Family Planning Program, Title X, saw no increase in funding, leaving levels at a static $286 million, while harmful abstinence-only programs, were boosted by $28 million.
The President's most egregious cuts were made to the U.S. Agency for International Development's international family planning programs. If Congress were to approve the President's cuts, funding would be reduced from the $436 million allocated in 2006 to $294 million. It's time for American's to take a stand. Reject the President's dramatic cut of international family planning and demand an increase of funding without restrictions.
