New Book
More: Population, Nature and What Women Want
In a first-of-its-kind book called More: Population, Nature and What Women Want, Robert Engelman spans centuries of women's reproductive history and delves into deep-rooted questions of sexuality to ask the provocatively simple question, "What do women want?" The answer may be the key to saving the planet. A former newspaper reporter, Engelman has traveled widely over the last 15 years, interviewing women about their contraception and family planning practices in countries around the world. He concludes that if women could determine for themselves whether and when to have children-without religious and social pressure or government control-the world would not be facing the kind of environmental problems it is today. Engelman has put together a stunning look at the state of our world and a woman's vital place in it. More explains how the decisions women make every day to have children or not matter to challenges from scarcity-driven conflict to climate change, and how they will shape the world all our children will inherit.

New Partnership Resources: SYRF (Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom)
What are the connections between reproductive justice and environmental protection? How does faith or spirituality fit into the picture? And most importantly, how does this effect you and what can you do about it? The Sierra Club and SYRF have partnered to answer these questions! If you'd like to learn about and discuss these issues or host an interactive workshop, please contact us and we'll provide you with the information and resources you need!

  1. Apply for a SYRF Program Grant
Do you need some extra funding for an exciting program related to sustainability, spirituality, and sexuality? SYRF programmatic grants are available to any student organization or community group working with people between the ages of 16 and 30. Grants may only be used to fund events relating to spirituality and reproductive justice. SYRF grants can be used to cover costs associated with events, including food, publicity, speaker's fees, and space. Many organizations have applied for grants to fund panels of pro-choice clergy speaking about reproductive justice, movie screenings, interfaith discussions, and many, many other events! For other event ideas, just send us an e-mail at info@syrf.org or complete an online application.

  2. Become a SYRF Campus Organizer
The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC) is seeking passionate, enthusiastic, and articulate student interns at colleges and universities across the country to serve as ambassadors and interns for the Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom (SYRF) program during her or his university tenure. This internship will last for two academic semesters. Student interns may have the opportunity to receive class credit and a $1,000 stipend for eight months of student organizing per academic year ($500 per semester). Students will be expected to devote roughly six hours a week to SYRF organizing. Apply online!
