Environment and Workplace Codes of Conduct
Sierra Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the natural world.
It is of great importance to Sierra Club that in the design, manufacture and sale of the various lines of products bearing any Sierra Club trademark, the high standards and reputation that Sierra Club has established, be maintained. We look to licensees to exercise their best efforts to safeguard the environment and the quality and integrity of the Sierra Club name.
Sierra Club seeks to conduct its business in a responsible manner in
which it aims to promote environmental education and awareness,
appreciation of the natural world and the conservation of natural
resources. We will do business with partners who share our
commitment to the environment.
As one of the leading environmental organizations, we need to assure the consumer that Sierra Club and our partners are striving to provide products that seek to lessen the environmental impact to the extent
possible for the particular product. The list below is a general guideline
and offers recommendations to use when possible:
biodegradable, non-toxic and non-carcinogenic materials and substances, such as vegetable dyes and soy-based inks
industrial processes and safer chemicals that reduce the generation of toxic waste such as chlorine compounds
organic materials
recycled materials
recycled paper with post-consumer content, or tree-free paper
Forest Stewardship Council certified woods
high quality, long-lasting materials and products
In addition, we will do business with partners whose workers are, in all cases, present voluntarily, not child labor, not put at risk of physical harm, and fairly compensated. Our partners must also adhere to the Fair Labor Association objectives and workplace code of conduct.
