Sonoma Group Climate Action Plan 2020 and Beyond

The Regional Climate Protection Authority (RCPA) coordinates Sonoma County's climate protection activities and has recently updated the county-wide plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, now called Climate Action Plan 2020 and Beyond.

Highlights of Climate Action 2020 and Beyond

Sonoma County GHG emissions have declined since 1990, but without new actions they could climb back above historic levels by 2020.

The countywide goal for GHG emissions, 25% below 1990 levels, is achievable if we work together as a region.

State, Regional, and Local actions proposed in the Draft Plan can reduce local GHG emissions over 1.4 million metric tons each year by 2020.

The plan is focused on near term actions that will put Sonoma County on a path towards a 2050 goal of 80% below 1990 levels.

Plan success will require collaboration and investment by government, businesses, and citizens.

The RCPA will lead plan implementation and support local actions through grant funding, research, technical assistance, outreach, and education.
