Sonoma Group Climate Action Plan 2020 and Beyond
The Regional Climate Protection Authority (RCPA) coordinates Sonoma County's climate protection activities and has recently updated the county-wide plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, now called Climate Action Plan 2020 and Beyond.
Highlights of Climate Action 2020 and Beyond
• Sonoma County GHG emissions have declined since 1990, but without new actions they could climb back above historic levels by 2020.
• The countywide goal for GHG emissions, 25% below 1990 levels, is achievable if we work together as a region.
• State, Regional, and Local actions proposed in the Draft Plan can reduce local GHG emissions over 1.4 million metric tons each year by 2020.
• The plan is focused on near term actions that will put Sonoma County on a path towards a 2050 goal of 80% below 1990 levels.
• Plan success will require collaboration and investment by government, businesses, and citizens.
• The RCPA will lead plan implementation and support local actions through grant funding, research, technical assistance, outreach, and education.
