What's a lollapalooza?
As for Lollapalooza with a capital L, well, think of it as a travelling Gen-X Woodstock. The show, first launched in 1991, is back on the road after a five-year layoff. What's this have to do with the Sierra Club?
Lollapalooza has committed this year's tour to promoting alternative energy solutions. A number of the vendors and tabling organizations are environmentally oriented, there to help educate concertgoers about everything from the destructive Bush energy bill to ways to make your own house, car, and home appliances more energy efficient. As a forward-looking organization, we know that the power to effect change comes from the youth. Lollapalooza is an opportunity to reinvigorate the Sierra Club activist community with some new blood to combat environmental challenges, not just this year but years into the future.
Billy and Meighan will hit four shows on their road trip, tabling at each of the following venues: July 18: DTE Energy Music Theatre, Clarkston, MI (Detroit) All Sierra Club Lollapalooza 2003 photos courtesy Crystal Durham/Sierra Student Coalition. Sierra Club collection; all rights reserved. |
