Update: Rob Krar and Christina Bauer have teamed up with the Obama administration to help call attention to the value of the nation's public lands. Listen to them talk about the campaign and the Greater Grand Canyon Heritage National Monument in an interview with Arizona Public Radio.

Did you make a New Year’s resolution to get more exercise? Just watching ultra-runners Rob Krar and Christina Bauer trot along the breathtaking mountaintops of the proposed Greater Grand Canyon Heritage National Monument will get your heart rate up and make you want to sprint outside. The husband-and-wife team go the extra mile in this short film, Chasing the Distance, reflecting on their bond with the area and with each other.

The unique beauty of the proposed Greater Grand Canyon Heritage National Monument in Arizona draws visitors from around the world, generating millions of dollars each year and supporting thousands of jobs, but the area is vulnerable to threats like toxic uranium mining. A national monument designation would permanently protect the region.
