Sierra Club Summit attendees at the start of an outing in Golden Gate Park.

by Julie Heinzman
EXPLORE and ENJOY Golden Gate Park. That is what approximately 25 Sierra Club members did on Friday, September 9, 2005, during the first Sierra Club Summit thanks to Event Leader, Susan Stecklair. We started out on our 6 mile hike by taking the N line of the Muni Underground in order to reach the park from the Moscone Center, where the Summit meetings were taking place. First stop was the arboretum, where the air was full of wonderful smells from the plants. We walked by a beautiful stone bridge, rose gardens, redwoods, buffalo, and a beautiful windmill. We lost a few people along the way to the Japanese Tea Garden where one can enjoy tea with crackers and cookies in a garden with many not so bashful birds and squirrels. At the end of the hike we found the ocean and the Beach Chalet. A few of the members enjoyed dinner after the hike at the Beach Chalet. Many thanks to Susan for showing us the park. It was absolutely terrific. -- 09/09/2005 Fri |
