While living (and eating) in China, Bryan Parks was struck by the enormous volume of bamboo chopsticks that were discarded daily after being used for a single meal. That's when the lightbulb popped over his head -- a lightbulb surrounded by a novel lampshade. He started a business, Kwytza Kraft, to transform used chopsticks into lampshades, placemats, floormats, and other items of home décor. The chopsticks are collected by restaurants in China, and are cleaned and sanitized before becoming contemporary-styled functional items.
