Carbon Conservation

Carbon Ocean

Land Conservation priorities have favored visually dramatic resources – mountains, lakes, forests and shores. As a result we enjoy national seashores, public forests and parks in every mountain range, along with an industry sized effort built around protecting rain-forests. These conservation achievements have, however, overshadowed a more visually humble but no less vital resource in meeting the challenge in global climate change: Grasslands of the North American Prairie.

Carbon and Our Future

The Sierra Club plays important roles in the protection of species and the conservation of natural systems.  Now it has the opportunity, I’d say responsibility, to also help resolve one of the greatest challenges facing mankind.  Specifically – our use of resources is contributing to global and dramatic climate change – climate change that will impact how we use our land, how ecosystems will change or migrate, and what future we leave our children.
