Show and tell about places in nature that were, or are, important to you. Big majestic places, or everyday places.
Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina
Who: Dennis
Where: Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina
Why: The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed to commercial traffic, making it ideal for casual touring on my quiet motorcycle. Many vistas offer unspoiled views of the Blue Ridge range, allowing one to see these mountains as one might have seen them hundreds of years ago. This shows a view from the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone, N.C. My friend is setting up his tripod to shoot some of his own pictures. I love this photo. I'm at peace with including images of man and his creations in my nature photographs.
Of course, there are threats to the air, soil and waters of this region. I can never adequately express my gratitude for those
like-minded neighbors who wish to preserve these scenes for future generations. The park rangers do a magnificent job maintaining the pristine quality of the Parkway and its adjacent campgrounds. I use my bike often to explore new scenes in the Appalachians where I choose to live and defend against industrial exploitation through involvement with my regional Sierra Club, the State of Franklin, and my local group in Northeast Tennessee, the Johnson County Citizen's Committee for Clean Air and Water (JCCCCAW).
