Show and tell about places in nature that were, or are, important to you. Big majestic places, or everyday places.
Who: Michael
Where: Patuxent Research Refuge
Why: The Patuxent Research Refuge is one of those wonderful places
you can't imagine exists so close to home. On the outskirts of the
Nation's capital, the refuge is run by the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service
to protect wild birds and other endangered species.
Apart from this
vital mission, the refuge is open to the public to enjoy. The rustic North
fork has some great hiking and biking, whereas the National Wildlife
Visitor Center is in the South fork. Even if you came to hike, you'll
enjoy the tram ride and the discussion by your naturalist guide. This
place is special to me because I am so proud of our Government for having
the wisdom and generosity to create a beautiful place like this for all
citizens of the U.S. and, indeed, the world!
