Documentary: "Thirst"

Thirst is a groundbreaking new documentary that tells the story of communities stretching from Stockton, California, to Cochabamba, Bolivia, to Rajasthan, India which are resisting privatization of their water in order to preserve water as a public trust.

Produced by independent filmmakers Alan Snitow and Deborah Kaufman, Thirst features Sierra Club member Dale Stocking speaking out and walking the talk in Stockton. It also shows activists from around the globe confronting the corporate water privatizers in Kyoto Japan at the Third World Water Forum.

Sierra Club Productions is an environmental outreach partner for Thirst and is working to promote the film and awareness of water privatization issues through grassroots campaigning.

Sierra Club Books has published numerous book on the water theme. Click on a book title to find out more:

My Story as Told By Water: David James Duncan brilliantly braids his contemplative, activist, and rhapsodic voices to produce a loving tribute to the flora, fauna, and seasonal symphony of his native landscape.

Water, Water Everywhere: This handsome volume introduces not only the many forms and almost-magical properties of water, but also the vital role water plays in the life of our planet.

Water and the California Dream: in this provocative book, author David Carle contends that it may be time to stop drowning the California dream of the good life with imported water.

Mirage: The False Promise of Desert Agriculture: Sounding the alarm, "Mirage" traces century-old agricultural practices, successfully initiated in British India and the American West, and shows the startling, calamitous results of this shortsighted experiment.

A Thousand Leagues of Blue: Distinguished anthologist John Murray has here compiled a captivating literary itinerary of sites around the Pacific Ocean, by collecting the best writings on Oceania from the last three centuries.
